The Golden Compass
We know that many parents have been asking questions about The Golden Compass. In the links section to the right, there is a link to a great article about it from Christianity Today.

Thanksgiving
For the next 2 weeks, our Preschool and Elementary ministries will be learning about being thankful. We're going to talk about how we should be thankful for everything God does for us, and how we should show our appreciation to Him as well as our families and friends.
Also, our Preschoolers are practicing to perform handbells on December 16. Please have your child checked in as soon as possible each Sunday so that they have extra time to practice.

Disguises
This Sunday, we'll be starting a new series called "Disguises". It's all about the way that we hide who we really are. Over the next 5 weeks, we'll be talking about how to deal with pain and hurt feelings, not being just a "church kid", dealing with anger, being afraid, and insecurity.
It seems like some heavy topics, but we're going to do our best to make them fun and relevant to kids lives. So often when we minister to kids, we teach them about how to treat others, but we ignore the fact that others have mistreated them. Kids don't always understand how to turn the other cheek. Our first week is going to be about how we respond when people make us feel bad, and how to let go of hurt feelings and bad memories. We can't ask kids to change their world until we've given them the tools to change themselves.

Kids can be Heroes Too!
This month at Horizons, Pastor Rich and Pastor Jay are talking about how everyone of us has what it takes to be a hero. We certainly didn't want to leave the kids out, so our current Kids Church series is called Agents In Motion. We are teaching the kids how to be world changers.
This past Sunday, the kids learned how showing gratitude can have a huge impact on our family. In the coming weeks we are going to talk about impacting our church, our friends, our community, and our world. We want every kid to go home encouraged and equipped to make a difference.
In our Preschool, we are talking about men and women in the Bible that God used to do extraordinary things. The Preschoolers are also learning a song called "Jesus is my Superhero" that they will be performing on September 23rd.
If you've never brought your kids to Horizons, or if it's just been a while, don't miss out on another Sunday!

Time for School!
School begins in just a few more days. I hope that everyone is ready to go back to normal. Our Kids Church has spent this last month of the summer using things we've learned from video games to teach us about God. This weekend we'll be talking about how important it is for us to pray every day.
Hope to see you all this Sunday!

The Backyard Blast is 3 days away
It is here. The Backyard Blast begins Monday morning, and I hope that you will attend. We are going to provide kids with a great event and opportunity to hear about Jesus, in seven backyards around Stafford.
There will be maps to the events at Horizons this Sunday, and I encourage you to find the closest one to you so that your kids don't miss this event. I promise that it is going to be a ton of fun. We're going to be dumping slime on one kid at every event, so I'm sure your child will not want to miss out.
Also, if you would like to get involved, contact me at jimb@horizonschurch.com.

only 10 more days
I am sorry that there has been nothing new posted here. July has been quite busy. The Backyard Blast begins on July 29, and things are coming together nicely. If you don't know what it is, the Backyard Blast is like a Vacation Bible School, except that it is held in different backyards throughout the week. We will be in seven neighborhoods. This is perhaps the biggest thing our Kids Ministry has ever done.
If you are not signed up to help at one of our events yet, it's not too late. We are going to have another opportunity for you this Sunday. The more people we have involved, the more effectively we'll be able to minister to the kids in our neighborhoods.
Don't miss out on this amazing chance to grow God's kingdom in Stafford.
